THIS GEMSTONE IS A LOVELY 1.45CT (0,29G PLEASE SEE PHOTO MULTIPLY WEIGHT BY 5 TO GET CARATS) FIRE ORANGE SAPPHIRE GEMSTONE WITH A BEAUTIFUL OVAL CUT. THIS STONE IS A DEEP FIRE ORANGE COLOUR AND CATCHES THE LIGHT IN A BEAUTIFUL WAY.
THIS PARTICULAR STONE WAS BOUGHT ONLINE ON EBAY IN 2011 FROM A SELLER IN BANGKOK THAILAND. THE COUNTRY OF ORIGEN WAS INDICATED AS MADAGASCAR. IT HAS A VVS (EYE CLEAR) CLARITY WHICH MEANS IT IS HAS NO INCLUSIONS THAT CAN BE SEEN WITH THE NAKED EYE WHICH IT APPEARS TO BE. IT WAS ALSO INDICATED THAT IS A NATURAL SAPPHIRE THAT HAS BEEN HEAT TREATED.
NOTE THIS WEEK I HAVE 15 GEMSTONES ON AUCTION OF WHICH 7 ARE HIGH QUALITY SAPPHIRES. FOUR ARE DARK BLUE SAPPHIRES WITH 3 OF THEM HAVING GISA CERTIFICATES. ONE IS AN INTERETING PALE BLUE SAPPHIRE WHICH I HAVE NOT ENCOUNTERED BEFORE. TWO ARE ORANGE SAPPHIRES WITH 1 ALSO HAVING A GISA CERTIFICATE. ON AUCTION THIS WEEK IS ALSO ONE OF THE NICEST TOURMALINES WITH GISA CERTIFICATE THAT I HAVE SEEN.
TESTS PERFORMED: PASSED THE ELECTRON UV LIGHT EMISSION TEST: STRONG ORANGE RED UV REACTION. NATURAL ORANGE SAPPHIRES: A STRONG ORANGE-RED IN THE PRESENCE OF LW. SYNTHETIC ORANGE SAPPHIRES: VERY WEAK, ORANGE TO RED IN SW. (THE UV LIGHT HIT THE ELECTRONS. THEY JUMP AND FALL BACK. THEY RADIATE LIGHT OF A CERTAIN WAVELENGTH WHEN THEY DO WHICH IS SPECIFIC TO EACH ELEMENT IN THE MINERAL. THIS IS CALLED FLUORESCENCE. ONLY 10% OF GEMSTONES EXHIBIT A FLUORESCENCE AFFECT LIKE RUBIES, SAPPHIRE, TOPAZ, OPALS AND DIAMONDS. GLASS AND ALL NATURAL QUARTZ VARIETIES DOES NOT SHOW A UV AFFECT.) PASSED THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY TEST: TESTED THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY WITH A MIZAR PRESTIGE SERIES 2 DIAMOND TESTER. IT MOVED UP THE LADDER FROM STANDARD LEVEL 3 TO LEVEL 7. (DID TEST BUT SORRY NO PHOTO MY MIZAR TESTER BATTERY WAS FLAT WHEN I WANTED TO TAKE PHOTOS) FOR SAPPHIRES AND RUBIES A LEVEL OF 6 TO 7 IS THE NORM FOR THIS TESTER. (WITH THIS TESTER GLASS 0,002, TANZANITE, TITANITE AND TOURMALINE MAKES NO MOVEMENT, AQUAMARINE AND EMERALD LIE INBETWEEN AND CAN GIVE A LEVEL OF 3 OR 4. QUARTZ 0,026, GARNETS, SPINELS 0,028 AND KUNSITE GIVES A THERMAL OF 4, TOPAZ 0,04 GIVES A THERMAL OF 5. RUBIES AND SAPPHIRE 0,08 GIVES A THERMAL OF 6 TO 7.)

MY PERSONAL CONCLUSION REGARDING THIS GEMSTONE: I THINK IT MIGHT BE A NATURAL SAPPHIRE SINCE IT SHOWS A STRONG ORANGE RED UV FLUORESCENCE. THE EASIEST WAY TO TELL BETWEEN A NATURAL AND LAB-CREATED SAPPHIRE IS THE FLAWLESSNESS. OUR GEMSTONE HAS NO INCLUSIONS EYE VISIBLE. IT DOES SHOWS A VERY HIGH THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY CHARACTERISTIC OF REAL SAPPHIRE WHETHER IT BE NATURAL OR LAB CREATED. THE COLOR AND CLARITY OF RUBIES AND SAPPHIRES IS ALSO COMMONLY ENHANCED BY HEAT TREATMENT. IT WAS STATED THAT OUR GEMSTONE WAS HEAT TREATED. MY CONCLUSION: IT MIGHT BE A NATTURAL SAPPHIRE GEMSTONE THAT HAS BEEN HEAT TREATED DISCLAIMER: I AM NO GEMSTONE EXPERT AND NONE OF THE PRELIMERY TESTS I COULD PERFORM (SCRATCH TEST; UV TEST; THERMAL TEST) CAN CONFIRM THIS GEMSTONES NATURE AND PROPERTIES. THIS GEMSTONES BELONGED TO A FAMILY MEMBER THAT HAS PASSED AWAY. HE COLLECTED GEMSTONES DURING THE EARLY TWENTY FIRST CENTURY MANY WERE BOUGHT ON EBAY AND OTHERS BY TRAVELLING TO OTHER COUNTRIES. ADVANCED INTRUMENTS ARE NEEDED TO DISTINGUISH ONE GEMSTONE FROM ANOTHER AND TO CONFIRM IF IT IS NATURAL OR LAB MADE. However, lab-created gems are clean and flawless.
