FIRE ORANGE RED 1.20CT SPESSARTINE AFRICAN GARNET GEMSTONE WITH BEAUTIFUL OVAL CUT

LOVELY 1,20CARAT (0,24G MULTIPLY BY 5 TO GET CARATS) ORANGE RED SPESSARTINE AFRICAN GARNET GEMSTONE WITH A BEAUTIFUL OVAL CUT. Spessartine is a orange to orange red to orange brownish garnet variety used and adored since ancient times. Spessartine garnets often has iron inclusions and is known for there magnetic attraction!

THIS PARTICULAR STONE WAS BOUGHT FROM A SELLER IN BANGKOK THAILAND IN 2011 WITH THE COUNTRY OF ORIGEN INDICATED AS NIGERIA. THE ONE GEMSTONE HAS A SI (INCLUSIONS EYE VISIBLE) CLARITY WHICH MEANS IT HAS INCLUSIONS THAT CAN BE SEEN WITH THE NAKED EYE. IT WAS ALSO SOLD AS AN UNHEATED NATURAL GARNET GEMSTONE.

NOTE I HAVE 3 BEAUTIFUL GARNET GEMSTONES (MY FAVOURITE) ON AUCTION. BESIDES THIS BEAUTY I HAVE ANOTHER SPESSARTINE ORANGE RED GARNET AND A PURPISH RED RHODOLITE GARNET ALSO ON AUCTION THIS WEEK.

IT PASSED OR GAVE AN UNCLEAR ON ALL THE TESTS I COULD PERFORM:
UNCLEAR MAGNETIC TEST: Did not show a clear pickup magnetic response. Garnets are the only common gemstones that show a Pick Up response to a strong magnet. However, different types of Garnets differ in their chemical compositions and also differ in their magnetic susceptibility.
PASSED ELECTRON UV LIGHT EMISSION TEST: INERT REACTION. Most garnets due to some iron content that stops fluorescence shows an inert or no UV reaction. The only garnets that exhibit fluorescents are some green garnets such as tsavorite may fluoresce a weak orange in long UV and weak yellow in short UV. GLASS AND ALL QUARTZ VARIETIES DOES NOT SHOW A UV AFFECT.
(THE UV LIGHT HIT THE ELECTRONS. THEY JUMP AND FALL BACK. THEY RADIATE LIGHT OF A CERTAIN WAVELENGTH WHEN THEY DO WHICH IS SPECIFIC TO EACH ELEMENT IN THE MINERAL. THIS IS CALLED FLUORESCENCE. ONLY 10% OF GEMSTONES EXHIBIT A FLUORESCENCE AFFECT LIKE RUBIES, SAPPHIRE, TOPAZ, OPALS AND DIAMONDS. GLASS AND ALL NATURAL QUARTZ VARIETIES DOES NOT SHOW A UV AFFECT.)
PASSED THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY TEST: TESTED THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY WITH A MIZAR PRESTIGE SERIES 2 DIAMOND TESTER. IT MOVED UP THE LADDER A LITTLE FROM STANDARD LEVEL 3 TO LEVEL 4. GARNETS FALL JUST BELOW QUARTZ REGARDING THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY AND A LEVEL OF3 TO  4 IS THE NORM FOR THIS TESTER.
(WITH THIS TESTER GLASS 0,002, TANZANITE 0 005, AND TITANITE MAKES NO MOVEMENT, TOURMALINE 0.012 AQUAMARINE 0.013 AND EMERALD 0.013 AND GARNETS 0.012 AND KUNSITE 0.013 LIE INBETWEEN AND CAN GIVE A LEVEL OF 3 OR 4. QUARTZ 0,020 GIVES A THERMAL OF 4, SPINELS 0,028 ALSO LIE IN BETWEEN AND CAN GIVE A THERMAL OF 4 TO 5; TOPAZ 0,04 GIVES A THERMAL OF 5 TO 6. RUBIES AND SAPPHIRE 0,08 GIVES A THERMAL OF 6 TO 7.)

SIZE: 7.1mm x 5.3mm x 4.0mm

MY PERSONAL CONCLUSION REGARDING THIS GEMSTONE:
GARNETS ARE MY FAVOURITE GEMSTONE. BESIDES THEIR BEAUTIFUL COLOUR I HAVE ALWAYS LIKED THE WAY SOME OF THEM GIVE A CLEAR MAGNETIC ATTRACTION AS DOES THIS GEMSTONE. IT IS A BEAUTIFUL GEM THAT IS USUALLY SOLD WITHOUT TREATMENT OF ANY KIND. IT IS ALSO DURABLE AND COMMON ENOUGH THAT IT CAN BE USED IN JEWELRY AT A RELATIVELY LOW COST. IT IS RARELY SYNTHESIZED.
MY CONCLUSION:  IT IS MOST PROPABLY A NATURAL GARNET GEMSTONE

DISCLAIMER: I AM NO GEMSTONE EXPERT AND NONE OF THE PRELIMERY TESTS I COULD PERFORM (SCRATCH TEST; UV TEST; THERMAL TEST) CAN CONFIRM THIS GEMSTONES NATURE AND PROPERTIES. THIS GEMSTONES BELONGED TO A FAMILY MEMBER THAT HAS PASSED AWAY. HE COLLECTED GEMSTONES DURING THE EARLY TWENTY FIRST CENTURY MANY WERE BOUGHT ON EBAY AND OTHERS BY TRAVELLING TO OTHER COUNTRIES. ADVANCED INTRUMENTS ARE NEEDED TO DISTINGUISH ONE GEMSTONE FROM ANOTHER AND TO CONFIRM IF IT IS NATURAL OR LAB MADE.

GARNET:
Garnet has been used as a gemstone for over 5000 years. It has been found in the jewelry of many Egyptian burials and was the most popular gemstone of Ancient Rome.
Garnet continues as a popular gemstone today. Most people will think of a red gemstone when they hear the name "garnet" because they are not aware that garnet occurs in a variety of colors. However, gem-quality garnets occur in every color - with red being the most common and blue garnets being especially rare.
Red almandine is the red garnet most often found in jewelry because it is abundant and inexpensive. Pyrope and spessartine are reddish and orange garnets that are commonly encountered in jewelry for the same reason.
African garnets of various colors: orange spessartine (Mozambique), yellow mali (Mali), red almandine (Madagascar), green tsavorite (Tanzania), and purple rhodolite (Mozambique). In the past two decades, Africa has become a major source of excellent beautiful garnets with great color and clarity.
