9 Sketches Bret Harte Slip Case 1967 Limited Edition W Virginia Pulp and Paper

Hardcover
First Edition thus
In his writings, Bret Harte was a master of paradox. He had a penchant for revealing the hard-bitten gambler as a self-sacrificing sentimentalist; the woman of pleasure as a puritan at heart sustained by her lover for an estimable son; the pious clergyman as a profane and wily schemer; the angel-face youth as a desperado hell-bent for destruction. The nine sketches (stories) in this edition of Harte made up about half of the stories of the picturesque sourdoughs that apperared in the first volume of his stories. The book is lavishly illustrated from wood engravings of Harper's New Monthly Magazine (1853-1858).
