Two volumes, complete, Classics of Exploration Series, Time Life Books, 209 + 276 pages, facsimile reprint of the Memorial Edition (1894),  full brown faux leather binding with gilt and red titling and decorations, all edges gilt, many maps and illustrations, condition: as new.

The author, Captain Sir Richard  Burton, (1821   1890) was a British explorer, army officer, orientalist writer and scholar. He was famed for his travels and explorations in Asia, Africa and South America, as well as his extensive knowledge of languages and cultures, speaking up to 29 different languages.
One of the great adventure classics. Victorian scholar-adventurers firsthand epic account of daring 1854 expedition to forbidden East African capital city. A treasury of detailed information on Muslim beliefs, manners and morals; plus pleasures and perils of the desert. A wealth of geographic, ethnographic and linguistic data.
The book is valuable as a record of the strong characters who were also men of learning and resource ,working for modest rewards to open up the world to trade and prosperity.
This book is part of the Classics of Exploration Library . The books in the library have been out of print for decades, and therefore not accessible to the public. Now brought back into print after many decades, the material have been copied in facsimile from the original editions, with each title meticulously hand curated.
