Description: A meticulous two volume facsimile (including all the text, plates, and maps) of this classic adventure story (originally published in 1846) by the famous explorer and cartographer Richard F. Burton, which introduces the reader to the infamous Isa, tribesmen who equated cruelty with honour, murder with heroism, and of the tribal trials by ordeal in fire or boiling water. These writings are considered to have added enormously to Western knowledge of Somalia.

Condition: Hardcovers bound in full brown faux leather, red between the raised bands and gilt titling and decorations, all edges gilt, marbled end pages.
