FLIES AND FLYFISHING IN SOUTH AFRICA BY JACK BLACKMAN. HARDCOVER, NO INSCRIPTIONS OR NAMES, 63 PAGES, IN GOOD CONDITION. "Over the years I have been asked many times whether there are colour illustrations of the most commonly used South African trout flies. The answer has been that nothing of this nature is available. One day I met Robert Brett who asked me the same question and I had to give the same negative answer. He was not so negative. His reply was if I could produce the colour reproduction of the flies, he would arrange for their publication. So that's how it all started. You now have before you a book on artifical fly identification. But it is more than just trout flies. It seemed pointless to produce a book of flies without including the dressing for each pattern. Those fly fishermen who are tying their own flies will be able to use this book as a reference for those flies they wish to tie. 1am continually being asked where anglers can fish for trout or to put it more broadly, where to cast a fly. It is with this in mind I include information on how to find out where to fish. Legal requirements have been included to help those moving from province to province. The overseas visitor will find information in this book that will be invaluable when planning a fly fishing holdiay in South Africa. The cinderella of fly fishing is leaders and knots. The joining of backing to the reel, the inner end of the fly line to the backing, the leader to the line and the fly to the leader. These joinings cause some beginners and experienced fly fishermen problems. So I have included a little on this subject. Casting or the presentation of the fly is a subject of a complete book. However to help those who have casting problems and those who would improve their technique of casting some thing on presentation has been included. Fishing talk, some past and present experiences on trout caught, trout lost, including a little of the how and where. There is more to a book than the encouragement of the publisher. This book would never have reached the manuscript form if it had not been for my friend Neil Hodges and his camera. His quiet encouragement and help with the correction of the script and the production of the colour pictures of the flies you have before you. Thanks Neil.To those who read this book, may you obtain the quiet enjoyment of fly fishing that has been mine. The excitement of the hunt, and the satisfaction of a released trout giving the next angler that passes, the thrill of the take." - Preface
