Scarlet sage, also known as red salvia, is recognized by a dense cluster of flowers, which appears at the top of the plant. The botanical name of scarlet sage is 'Salvia coccinea'. The other names by which it is known are 'Texas sage' and blood sage'. It can be either a hardy annual flower or a tender perennial flower, and is basically found in the southern part of USA and BRAZIL. The flowers appear in many different colors like fluorescent red, scarlet, coral or apricot and white. It usually blooms during the late summer or at the start of fall.

History of Scarlet Sage
Scarlet sage was first reported to be grown in America, from where it continued to grow in the entire temperate region. In the year 1883, a Russian botanist by the name of Alexander von Bunge gave the scarlet sage plant its botanical name, 'Salvia', which was derived from a Latin word "salvere", and which means 'to cure' or 'to save'. It was believed that growing scarlet sage in one's garden would enable the human being to attain immortality. It was highly regarded in China, and was used as means of trade during the 17th century. The Romans also held this flower in the highest esteem as it was considered to be the herbal saviour of humanity.

Red Salvia, also sometimes called Scarlet Sage, is a valuable addition to yards and gardens, blooming generously and needing little care. A native of Brazil, this type of salvia is commonly grown as an annual
