After failing to acquire Ferrari against Fiat for racing intelligence, Ford sought out revenge by winning the 24H of Le Mans with their own car: the GT40. After failing once again by retiring all racers from 1964 and '65, Ford finally finished a legendary first, second and third, this being the particular winner. The story would live on, with other examples winning Le Mans three times consecutively, and yet another rivalry reborn between Ferrari and Ford fifty years later in the GTE class, plus a movie in memory of their success, 'Ford V Ferrari'.
