While the extent and even existence of Namibia's forests are not always recognized, affecting SFM practices in the country. Despite this, a lot has happened in the forestry sector since Namibia's Independence, and since the book Forestry in Namibia 1850 -1990 (Erkkil and Siiskonen 1992) was written. Hence, it was an opportune time to give an overview of the progress made, the obstacles encountered and the challenges ahead for SFM.
