The dynamic role played by the forefathers of the Griqua nation as pioneers and frontiersmen towards the end of the 17th century. Trying to preserve their independence from the European settlers, they began moving away into the interior. Familiar and unfamiliar names such as Hendrik Witbooi; Jager Afrikaner; Danzer, a renegade Xhosa; Adam Kok; Nikolaas Waterboer, Amraal Lambert, and others. From runaway slaves, fugitives from Colonia justice and men of assorted origins choosing to seek their fortunes outside the law. Others wanted only to be left in peace. But they all shared a common fate. They are people with a history.
