3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, is a process where a digital design is turned into a three-dimensional object layer by layer. The printing begins with a computer-generated model which is sliced into thin horizontal layers (0.08 - 0.20mm). The printer then heats a special kind of plastic called Polylactic Acid (PLA) up to 220C and deposits it layer by layer until the object is fully formed, a process that takes many hours to complete.  PLA is a popular biodegradable thermoplastic derived from renewable resources like cornstarch and sugarcane.

While 3D printing enables the creation of complex and customized designs, the resulting items are fragile, may contain some imperfections and visible lines. Imperfections can arise due to variations in material properties, layer adhesion issues, minor deviations in the printing process itself and even ambient temperature and humidity. The visible lines on 3D printed objects are a direct result of the layer-by-layer construction method. However, imperfections and visible lines contribute to the uniqueness of each item, making every 3D-printed piece one-of-a-kind.

3D printed items are not recommended for use as children's toys due to their fragility, potential for sharp edges, small parts and the variability in material safety.
