Trilobite Time Capsule: A Window into Prehistory

Size:  36mm x 48m x 40mm Approximately
Weight:  60 gram
Before the age of dinosaurs, long before mammals roamed the Earth, the seas were dominated by armored invertebrates known as trilobites. This stunning Morocops Trilobite fossil dates back to the Lower Devonian period (±400 million years ago) and was uncovered in the renowned Issoumour fossil beds of Morocco.
Trilobites were among the first creatures to develop complex eyes, with their unique calcite crystal lenses giving them a panoramic view of their underwater world. This evolutionary adaptation made them skilled survivors, helping them detect movement and avoid predators. Their rigid exoskeletons provided protection, while their soft underbellies housed multiple pairs of spiny legs, which they used for walking and feeding.
These fascinating creatures were not only survivors but also master molters. As they grew, they regularly shed their outer shell, leaving behind countless fossilized remains for modern collectors to discover. However, despite their long reign, trilobites were ultimately wiped out by the devastating Permian mass extinction, which erased 90% of life in the oceans.
Morocco's fossil deposits, once part of an ancient seabed, now yield some of the world's best-preserved trilobite specimens. Each fossil is a unique snapshot of prehistoric life, frozen in time for over 400 million years!
