A Large Medal to Commemorate the Formation of the Durch East India Company in 1602. Probably made by the Royal Mint Pretoria because of "RMP" on the reverse.

The Dutch East India Company (Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie) was established in the Netherlands in 1602. The company came to dominate European trade with the east for roughly the following 200 years. The company created the first European settlement in South Africa at the Cape in 1652 under the command of Jan van Riebeeck.
