Original 1903 Government of the Cape of Good Hope invitation issued to Charles Mayer Sonnenberg (1842 - 1912), a Jewish immigrant who rose from Civil War soldier in the United States to millionaire diamond merchant and Member of the Cape Parliament.

 

The invitation, numbered 45, was for a luncheon at Groot Constantia on 20 February 1903, to meet the Right Honourable Joseph Chamberlain, M.P., Secretary of State for the Colonies, and Mrs. Chamberlain.
