The picture is signed Kay Rawbone and dated 1977. The artist won the Philp Frame Award at the Art - South Africa Today National Art Competition in 1975 (Philip Frame was one of the main sponsors). Esme Berman refers to this competition as the most important South African art competition in its day. The artist shows real talent, both in her brushwork and composition skills.
The picture is bright and unfaded but there is evidence of foxing, which is less noticeable if the picture is observed from far away. See photos. The frame shows some wear.
