An original 1879A French 1 Centime issued during the early years of the Third Republic. Struck at the Paris Mint, indicated by the A mintmark below the denomination, this classic bronze coin features the elegant head of Liberty wearing a wheat wreath on the obverse and the denomination within a circular legend on the reverse.
Designed by Albert Désiré Barre, the French 1 Centime of this period is admired for its refined portrait and traditional 19th-century French style. The 1879 issue was struck in bronze and circulated widely throughout France during the late 1800s.
This piece remains an appealing and affordable addition to any collection of French, European, or world bronze coinage.
Condition - Very Fine
The portrait of Liberty remains clear with visible hair detail and wreath, while the legends and denomination are sharp and fully readable. The coin shows moderate circulation wear, light marks and pleasing even brown toning, but no major damage or corrosion.
