FRANZ HERMLE AND SOHN (FHS):
In 1922, Franz Hermle founded the Franz Hermle Clock Company in Gosheim/Wuerttemberg, Germany. Within ten years the company became known as one of the most modern and efficient manufacturers of clock movements in the clock industry. Franz Hermle and his sons dedication weathered the effects of WWII and made Franz Hermle and Sohn, prosper while other companies capitulated.
The founder, Franz Hermle, died in 1953 and left a modern and prosperous operation to his sons Gebhard, Alfred, Hans and Heinrich Hermle. They have continued to build the company into a worldwide leader in the manufacturing of clocks, and mechanical clock movements.

ANNIVERSARY CLOCKS:
A torsion pendulum clock, more commonly known as an anniversary clock or 400-day clock, is a mechanical clock which keeps time with a mechanism called a torsion pendulum which is often a decorative wheel with three or four chrome balls on ornate spokes, suspended by a thin wire called a "torsion or suspension spring"). The torsion pendulum rotates about the vertical axis of the wire, twisting it, instead of swinging like an ordinary pendulum. The force of the twisting torsion spring reverses the direction of rotation, so the torsion pendulum oscillates slowly, clockwise and counterclockwise. Torsion clocks are unusually delicate, ornamental mechanical machines which require stable conditions to operate properly. The clocks are protected from the vagaries of air currents by a glass or part brass dome.
Clocks of this style were first made by Anton Harder around 1880  and they are also known as 400-day or anniversary clocks because many can run for an entire year on a single winding. Today battery operation has replaced physical winding, although the basic mechanical principles remain intact. The term "Anniversary clocks" still stands, because in most cases, the batteries need replacing about once a year.
