Born in one of the strongest gold mining areas in South Africa, Freda always knew she wanted to draw and paint. After matriculation, Freda embarked on a diploma course in art at the ABC School of Art in Cape Town. She obtained a distinction in drawing and painting in her final diploma.

1994 Freda decided to become a professional full time artist and she quickly became noticed by the government and state bodies such as Eskom. Works were commissioned by the banks and Parliament – most popular were her scenes of ordinary people doing ordinary jobs – grape harvesting, flower selling and working on boats and the land.

Up to 2005 Freda has had some twenty solo exhibitions throughout South Africa and Namibia, whilst visitors to South Africa have bought her paintings because of the aura of the scenes they witnessed whilst on holiday.

In style Freda’s work is both colourist and charmingly primitive in choice of scenes, figurines and their attitudes.

Freda’s main media are oil and acrylic on board, canvas or canvas on board.
