Chords are fun! Learn all you can about them... you won't regret it!
Chords make music. They are what music is all about.
When you play a chord, you are playing more than one note at a time. That means you are playing harmony.
There are all sorts of ways to play a chord. This means you can create different harmonies (sounds) for the same chord.
These different sounds for a chord are called chord 'voicings'.
Different styles of music use different 'voicings' for a particular sound suitable for that style.
Chord Voicings: A chord consists of 3 or more notes and you can 'arrange' those notes in different orders to get different chord shapes on the fret board. It's how you arrange those chord tones that create a particular sound for that chord.
You can play a simple C chord several different ways. You can make that simple C chord fit country, rock, folk, blues, jazz, classical, heavy metal etc. In fact, any style of music you like.
Just one simple chord can serve so many different purposes. Discovering how to do this is one of the most powerful things you can do for your guitar playing.
