artist: Cherie Roe Dirksen
size: 710mm x 710mm x 40mm
medium: Acrylic and Mixed Media on Boxed Canvas (can be hung as is)
Inspiration Behind the Painting:
This was part of the Rocking Art Exhibition held at the Karoo Art Hotel 23/12/2016 - 05/01/2017.
This is painting no. 8 from my Rock Art Series. You can read more about that here: http://cherieroedirksen.com/the-rock-art-series/
This painting was subliminally/intuitively painted to the music of grunge pioneers, Nirvana.
I paint whatever the music invokes. I have blogged about the whole experience (with 'start to finish' photographs): http://cherieroedirksen.com/2015/11/18/cold-burn-to-nirvana-rock-art-painting-no-8-is-something-different-photos-included/ and you can read all about why and how this painting emerged here (not for the faint hearted!): http://cherieroedirksen.com/2015/11/25/get-me-out-of-purgatory-the-emotions-behind-the-nirvana-painting-cold-burn/
This painting (and music) evoked certain keywords that I scribble down on the side of the canvas. There weren't many words that came through, just:
-‘Want to be warm — fire/sun/warmth’
-‘Tired of being cold in the dark — womb’
I got a very dark feeling, a bit like being in purgatory. If you are interested and want to find out more, please do read the above blog links.
