A fine example of a French M1874 Gras bayonet for use with the Fusil Modèle 1874 or Gras, which was the French Army's primary service rifle from 1874 to 1886. The bayonet is in overall good condition with the locking button functional.
Marks (ricasso) : two poinçons (metal stamps) for armoury inspection. The ricasso is the part of the blade closest to the hilt.
Marks (quillon) : "FJ" and serial number "32496" with three poinçons (inspection stamps). The quillon is the distinctive curved section of the crossguard.
Marks (blade spine) : "Mre, Armes De St. Etienne, Janvier 1884" (Manufactured at Armoury of St. Etienne, January 1884).
