This incredibly rare book, is a tale about the friendship between two young boys - one black - one white - in a time where innocence flourished and life wasn't as "complicated" as it is today. It is written in a style that is easy for a pre-teen to read with only 198 pages. The book is illustrated throughout.

The Book's History:
What makes this book unique is the period of South African history when it was written and it's subject matter. I don't know the publishing date, but I received it as a personal gift from the author in 1980. The book was BANNED at the time, because of the racial tensions in the country - and was deemed INAPPROPRIATE for young white minds! Nothing could be further from the truth - it is a lovely story!

I was privileged enough to personally know the author of this book - Bill Herbst. His wife, Gladys did the illustrations. This is probably the only autographed copy in existence. Both Bill and Gladys have passed on - but I hope their story remains forever!
