Howard Timmins 1971 hardcover. The jacket is whole but rubbed in places, with only very minor tears along the edges which are also worn. There is a strip of clear sticky tape up the spine. The boards are square and clean, but the top right corner is creased and bent inwards, about 5cm x 5cm. Internally the pages are clean and undamaged, apart from some very minor general age browning, and a loose piece of paper has left a shadow on the dedication page, and the page opposite. This book is number 247 of 1850 numbered copies. "This is the first part of a two-part auto-biography and deals with the author's early years. Major Van Der Byl is one of the few South Africans who have won a rowing Blue at Cambridge University. He served with distinction in World War I with General Botha in South West Africa and with General Smuts in the East African campaign."
