Two hardcovers. Bindings in tact  Published in 1895 by Cassell and Company, Limited, London, Paris and Melbourne with 492 and 442 pages respectively. Pages uncut. Foxing throughout.. Gilt lettering to spine. The author, Stanley Weyman, was a literary giant in the late 19th century during which time his historical novels were read by thousands. "Memoirs of a minister of France" relates a series of episodes of French Court life and manners in the latter days of the 16th and early years of the 17th century. The succession of anecdotes in which the Minister is the narrator range from grave to gay (492 pages). "Story of Francis Cuddle" (442 pages). "The announcement ..... that Queen Mary is dying and the reign of terror at an end is an extremely effective piece of writing and makes the reader realize vividly what were the conditions under which men had to live in those days".  No shipping overseas.
