Original Belgian 19401945 Colonial War Effort Medal. Bronze rectangular design with Pro Patria et Victoria and 19401945 dates. Yellow ribbon with light blue edges.
This medal is the 19401945 Colonial War Effort Medal (French: Médaille de l'Effort de Guerre Colonial 19401945), a Belgian decoration instituted in 1947.
It was awarded to civilians, volunteers, and personnel who served honourably for at least one year in the Belgian Congo or Ruanda-Urundi between May 1940 and May 1945. This medal is not South African, but forms part of Belgian wartime and colonial service honours.
The bronze medal has a distinctive rectangular shape, featuring the dates 1940 1945 and the inscription PRO PATRIA ET VICTORIA (For Fatherland and Victory), set between vertical laurel branches and topped by a five-pointed star. It is suspended from a yellow ribbon with light blue edges.
A desirable piece for collectors of European military medals, colonial history, and Second World War service decorations.
