SOLID BRASS FULL SCALE FUNCTIONAL WHALE OIL LAMP

This lamp stands 62 cm from base to tip of finial
It is in splendid cleaned and polished condition and fully functional
This lamp features four spouts, with four chains and three chatelaine suspending tools: a brass snuffer, copper tweezer and iron pick
The lamp illuminates via the spouts.
The centre oil chamber with spouts rest on a small pillar with screw key which enables positioning of the oil chamber and spouts at any level of the shaft
With quality wicks and suitable lamp oil the lamp produces a clear, smokeless and odourless flame
Concentrated scented oil added to the lamp oil makes the lamp an effective incenser

These lamps are antique and date back to the 1700s / 1800s when whale oil was used as illuminant in the lamps.  Use of whale oil ended around the mid-1800s when petroleum was discovered.
