Original Military Rule Medal from the Republic of Transkei, issued to commemorate the 1987 bloodless military coup. Bronze medallion with crossed rifles and wreath, green ribbon with white and orange stripe.
This medal is an original Military Rule Medal from the former Republic of Transkei, one of the nominally independent homelands established by South Africa during the Apartheid era.
The medal was instituted by the State President of Transkei to commemorate the 1987 bloodless military coup détat, which replaced the civilian government with a military regime. The medal was associated with the Transkei Defence Force (TDF), a small defence force that operated under the effective control of South Africa.
The bronze medallion features crossed rifles with fixed bayonets, surrounded by a wreath of leaves. The ribbon is green with a central white and orange stripe, a pattern unique to this medal.
A historically significant piece for collectors of homeland-era decorations, TDF memorabilia, and Southern African military history.
