Gainsborough: Paintings and Drawings is a comprehensive monograph that showcases the artistic achievements of Thomas Gainsborough (17271788), one of the most prominent English painters of the 18th century. Selected by art historian John Hayes, this volume presents a curated collection of Gainsborough's works, encompassing his portraits, landscapes, and figure studies.

The book features 232 pages filled with illustrations, including both color and black-and-white reproductions, providing readers with a visual journey through Gainsborough's artistic evolution. An introductory essay offers insights into the artist's life, influences, and stylistic development, while the inclusion of a bibliography and index enhances its utility as a reference work.
