Brand New Etrex Legend GPS
Was a replacement unit Garmin shipped to me that has been sitting in a cupboard for almost a year.
Below is a cut and pasted description from the Garmin website. Located here: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=173
The brightly-colored eTrex Legend combines all of the intuitive, user-friendly features of the eTrex series with a full basemap of the Americas, the Atlantic or the Pacific and 8 megabytes (MB) of internal memory for storing optional maps.
Pinpoint Your Location
The Legend can receive position corrections from the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS), which makes Legend's already-accurate positioning data even more reliable. In fact, when you turn on WAAS, you can increase the accuracy of Legend's position reporting to within three meters.
Add More Detail
The Legend's basemap contains lakes, rivers, cities, interstates, national and state highways, railroads and coastlines. Legend also comes preloaded with marine navigation aids. And, with Legend's 8 MB of memory, you can add even more map detail with data from Garmin's entire line of MapSource® mapping products.
eTrex Legend: Puts the great outdoors in the palm of your hand.

This is from an older range of units that were more designed for offroad use than in a vehicle. As a result, by default it heads straight to any location. I have used an identical unit in the field before and it performed admirably. reasonably quick aquisition times and accuracy even in bad weather, in my experience. It supports adding on of data through the PC. If you have another software product, you can load it with up to 8 megs of data at a time. I have tried this and put on the latest Durban maps, where I am located. Then by combining with nroute, one can plot routes for the vehicle, and use it on the road. This device is not designed for that however, and does not provide voice prompts.
All in all a sturdily built, relatively waterproof device. My old unit gave me years of good use. I have used it on foot, in the car, on a bicycle, I have even used it in mapping, geocaching.
