The Gas Level Indicator Gauge can be used on any propane, butane or mixed fuel gas cylinders. Thinner than a credit card and 114 x 50mm, the GLI's magnetic backing means it can be attached to the outside of the cylinder. The GLI has been mainly designed as a warning device which shows the gas bottle is running out. To have a more precise idea of how much gas left in the bottle, the GLI is placed near the bottom of the cylinder.

The science of the Gas Level Indicator (the technical part) On the label, each vertical bar is a different temperature liquid crystal (LC) mixture. There are 12 LC bars in total which ensures that whatever the ambient air temperature (where the bottle is stored), there will always be at least one LC bar that is showing colour. When gas is discharged from the cylinder (ie being used) the liquid changing to gas inside the bottle causes the cylinder to cool and a noticeable temperature difference is noted on the cylinder's surface, above and below the liquid level. The cooling is caused by the gas absorbing heat energy from the cylinder and its surroundings because it changes from a liquid (under pressure) to a gas as it is released. The LC bar is able to indicate the change in temperature by changing colour vertically (blue to green to red) and show where the liquid gas level is. If the LC bar shows a constant colour the gas liquid level is above (or below) where the indicator has been placed.

TESTIMONIALS:

Arthur Fennell - H.A.L. Fennell

"I have recently tested the magnetic Gas Level Indicator. I used it on a cylinder attached to a roll about heater & it certainly gave an accurate indication of the level of LPG left in the cylinder. It works best when placed near the base of the cylinder. Being temperature based the appliance must be in use for it to give a reading. It is ideal for people wanting to know if their cylinder is nearing empty, giving them a chance to refill before finding themselves stuck without gas."

A.J De Wet - The Gas Academy

"This is a letter of approval for the product called 'Gas Level Indicator' We have used the magnetised gas level sticker and are happy with the performance of accurately reading the content of an LP Gas Cylinder. We currently retail the Gas Level Indicator and have found this product to be a useful way for the public to accurately meisure how full or empty LP Gas cylinders are."
