FACTS: The first mention of Ganymede can be found in Homers' epic where he is depicted as "the most beautiful of mortals" in "The Illiad", Book XX (20), lines 233-235. According to ancient Greek Mythology, Ganymede was a Trojan Prince, son of Tros (founder of Troy). Ganymede was a youth of exceptional beauty who attracted homosexual desire and love. In the myth, Zeus - the King of the Olympian Gods - fell in love with Ganymede, and turning into an Eagle abducted Ganymede, bringing him to Mount Olympus. Here he became the "cup-bearer" to the gods, succeeding Zeus' daughter Hebe. Zeus compensated Tros by gifting him fine horses. Later Zeus placed Ganymede in among the stars as the constellation of Aquarius (Cup-bearer), which is adjacent to the constellation of "Aquila" (The Eagle).
