General E.A. Conroy (Signed Cabinet Card)

A original cabinet card of Conroy, dedicated and signed on the verso by Conroy, a Cape Rebel ("Boererebel van Britstown") and historic figure from the Anglo-Boer War and the Maritz Rebellion.

Per Jaques Malan, 'Edwin Alfred Conroy is op 2 November 1897 op Hanover gebore en op 10 Februarie 1947 op Parys in die Oranje-Vrystaat oorlede In Desember 1900 sluit hy aan by genl. J.B.M. Hertzog se commando wat Kaapland binneval.  Hy veg onder kmdt. George Brand tot sover as Lambertsbaai en word korporaal.  Na Februarie 1901 word hy veldkornet en dien as een van pres. M.T. Steyn se lyfwagte.  Genl. C.R. de Wet bevorder hom tot commandant van n kommando Kaapse rebelle by Kakamas.  In Desember 1901 veg hy saam met genl. Manie Maritz by Tonteldooskolk en trek deur Griekwaland-Wes waar hy deur genl. De Wet tot veggeneraal bevorder [at the age of 22] word.  Hy teister die Britte in die Noordweste en skiet by Naroegas n aantal Kleurlinge dood wat sy kommando aangeval het.  Vir hierdie daad het die Engelse hom dringend gesoek.  In Mei vlug hy na Duits-Suidwes-Afrika waar hy hom by genl. Manie Maritz en ander aansluit en na Hamburg, Duitsland vertrek.  Hy keer in Augustus 1903 terug In 1914 rebelleer hy en word weer generaal.'
