The battery grip takes one EN-EL15 rechargeable battery or six AA batteries and includes an alternate shutter-release button, AE-L/AF-L button, multi selector, and main and sub-command dials for taking pictures in "tall"(portrait) orientation. Camera menu options allow the user to choose whether the camera battery or the batteries in the D7000 are used first.
