WEIRD, WONDERFUL AND UNUSUAL COLLECTABLES

CARCHARODON MEGALODON SHARK TOOTH FOSSIL

CARCHARODON MEGALODON - The largest carnivorous fish known to have existed. Through jaw reconstruction, it is believed that this giant shark, possibly related to the Great White Shark, grew to an estimated 18 meters in length. 3 Times the length and with jaws 4 times the size of a great White's, it preyed on creatures such as whales and dolphins in virtually all the oceans accross the world. By modern standards, it would have been able to easily swallow a mid-sized family car whole!

Like all sharks, it had a skeleton of cartilage which did not preserve well as fossil records, hence the fascination with this ancient monster's teeth. By using the Great White as model and the Megalodon's teeth as starting point, scientists were able to determine what it looked like and how it lived 18 million years ago.

Today Megalodon teeth fossils are highly prized by collectors and investors alike, with the largest and highest grades reaching thousands of dollars each. Colours and grades vary greatly by area, ranging from pitch black to a creamy white. The largest specimen ever found measured a massive 18 cm on the diagonal slant!

Many people are starting to realize the investment value in Megalodon teeth. There are only a limited number out there and often hazardous conditions have to be endured to salvage them from freezing rivers with strong currents and zero visibility. How many Megalodon teeth are still out there?
