Damascus steel blades are created by forge welding multiple layers of various steels into a solid block called a billet.
The billet is then folded and re-welded many times to create multiple layers and patterns.
When acid is applied to the blade, it attacks the layers of hard and soft steels differently, highlighting the attractive layered patterns in the steel.
The combination of layered hard and soft steels creates blade flexibility, hardness and durability and produces invisible serrations on the cutting edge that aid in cutting.
The Damascus blade of this knife has been hand forged from 1095 and 15N20 high carbon steels and the cutting edge heat treated to attain a hardness of 58 on the Rockwell scale.
The handle is constructed from bull horn and bone, with a brass bolster.
The blade displays a beautiful twist pattern, flowing outward from the grind line.
Intricate hand file work is visible on the spine, extending on to the handle.
The cutting edge of the blade has been given a preliminary sharpening.
