This is quite a rare find in South Africa!
This is a genuine, issued, M1 Steel Helmet from the Vietnam War! It has its original Mitchell Pattern camo cover (with the reversible autumn pattern on the other side). What makes this specific helmet quite a nice find is that it has its inner kevlar liner intact and still useable, with the original webbing harness! It also has the chin strap intact and original (in the picture the chin strap is mounted up over the rear lip of the helmet, often how it was worn in theater). It also has an original helmet band.
Tucked into the helmet band is a replica First Aid dressing box, a replica "Death Spade" card, and pinned to the front of the helmet are subdued Captain's insignia (not original).
The Mitchell cover has a name marked on it "Gardner, Lt", perhaps eluding to its original owner?
This Helmet was bought in the USA in the 1980's and came to SA where it was stored in a garage for many years. It's a true "barn find"!
NOTE: This item CANNOT be shipped outside of South Africa.
