Genuine Japanese wooden painted Kokeshi doll bought in Japan in 1960's; 28 cm hight; Very good condition; originated in rural Japan when farmers carved them from wood during long winter months; thought to be good luck with fertility and also as comfort to women who lost a child; characterised by their lack of arms and legs and also by their brightly painted floral design
