Georgian Porcelain Tea Cup and Saucer Davenport-type Imari design Circa 1810-1820 Ref.C-70

Description: Georgian Tea Cup and saucer Davenport-type Imari design Circa 1810-1820
Maker: No maker's mark, apart from a underglazed blue  "P" on each piece. Davenport, Bow, Derby, Wedgwood, Spode all had similar patterns/designs.
Date:1810-1820 era
History:The wide, deep saucer without a centre 'well' for the cup to sit in, is indicative  for this time period. The glazing shows typical 'orange-peel' effect, again, pointing to an early period.
Marks/Observations: Porcelain, showing a simple underglaze transfer in cobalt blue, the main pattern being a hand-painted overglaze design and heavily gilded. The design of the inner rim of the cup is found in all the above factories, namely Davenport, Bow, Derby, Wedgwood and Spode. Some 'black' spots indicating coal dust from the kiln, Note the '7' shaped handle and the large size of the cup.
Condition: Very good overall, no restoration, chips, cracks are evident. The colours remain bright and the pattern shows little wear.  Some slight loss of gilding to the saucer.
Dimensions: Cup - height 6cm, diameter 9cm. Saucer - height 3cm, diameter 14cm

Price: R700.00
