A gorgeous hand painted "Water Lily" pattern soup bowl by Hicks & Meigh in England, circa 1820. The colourful floral design is Chinoiserie influenced. It has a lovely combination of pinks and greens mixed with the Imari colours of orange and cobalt blue. At the centre of the soup bowl is a golden flower bud. Around it, we see an orange lily with cobalt blue leaves with gilded detailing, The gilding requires a special second firing at a much lower temperature so that the gold doesn't burn in the kiln.

Dimensions: 24cm - diameter

                      3,6cm - height

Age: Circa 1820
