grew up wanting to be Gerald Davies, those thrusting runs, the twinckling toes, the dash, the verve, the tries, the wins.
Having read that you might be surprised to read that I'm Welsh. Watching Gerald Davies throughout the 70's was one of the joys of the 5 Nations, reading his newspaper columns one of the joys of adulthood, meeting him in South Africa 3 years ago one of the most joyous moments of that, and any, tour.
Rugby Union in the days of the amateur has vanished, and is now largely forgotten, but Gerald offers a view into that world. Perhaps some of today's players should select it.
