Original Regimental Beer Stein, porcelain, pewter lid & thumblift, translucent lithophane base.
This highly decorative stein was awarded to a Reservist Nickel for 2 years service in Mainz from 1912-1914 with 88th Infantry Regiment. By a Prussian imperial order on Sep 19, 1913, King Konstantin of Greece was appointed to be the ceremonial head of the Regiment, so the unit received the K with a red crown for the their epaulets. The regiment was part of the 21st Infantry Division which was part of the XVIII Corps at Frankfurt am Main. In Aug 1914, it was part of the Fourth Army that fought at Neuf Château & other locations during August crossing the Meuse River on August 28. In September 1914, it took part on the First Battle of the Marne. It then retired toward Rheims, where it fought northwest of the city. In October, it was reassigned with the XVIII Corps to the Second Army in Roye until March 1915.
The stein is in perfect condition with no chips or cracks.
