Offered for sale is a small highly decorative and superb Wmf Ikora art glass bowl made circa 1926 -1936 in Germany . It is a fine example of hand-made art art glass from the Art Deco period prior to WW2. The design is attributed to Karl Wiedmann who was WMFs principal designer and General Manager from the 1920S onwards . The deep red-orange Wmf Ikora glass is the most desirable for collectors . The bowl is made from clear glass with opaque glass inclusions and was technically complex to produce using hot fusion decorative techniques . Wmf Ikora glass has a very distinctive appearance and a crackled/fissured effect which was deliberately achieved by immersing the hot glass bowl in cold water applying silver nitrate to the web of spidery cracks which occurred and then encasing the bowl in a clear glass body to give a perfectly smooth exterior finish. The bowl has a polished pontil mark on the base .A distinctive pattern of radiating or vertical stripes is typical of Wmf Ikora glass designs. All the pieces are unique, hand made with a high finish.
This is a small bowl. Dimensions are : diameter 18cm ; height of the bowl measured from the base 5 cm ; diameter of the base: 6cm
