Offered for sale is a rare and unusual Art Deco Wmf Ikora glass bowl made in German between roughly 1926 and mid 1936 when production of art glass ceased . The design is attributed to Karl Wiedmann. It is a unique hand made item. Wmf glass was never signed but marked with paper labels. Wmf glass is very distinctive due to its technique of using hot fusion decorative processes to case or imbed opaque colour within a clear glass body. The web like bubbles and swirls of milky white colour were achieved by deliberately cracking or crazing the hot glass in cold water, applying aluminium nitrate to the fine cracks to create webs of spidery white colour and then casing the bowl in a clear glass finish. The bowl is in very good condition without imperfections, chips , cracks or scratches. It is a medium sized item, the diameter is 26cm, the height from the base is 7cm and the diameter of the footed base is 9cm. It is a most unusual colourway with a jade/ lime green/pale green opaque border and aubergine coloured radiating bands in the well of the bowl. The bowl is clear glass/achromatic glass with cased colour inclusions and a craquelure type finish.
Price comparison; Millers 2015 price guide indicates a recommended asking price of 150 pounds sterling ie R3300 for a bowl of the same dimensions in a red glass colourway
