German Emergency Porcelain Money post WW1: Set 7
We have received a large collection of these coins that we are selling in smaller lots.
According to an internet source: - The German porcelain Notgeld (emergency money) were made between the years 1915 and 1923, in the years before the German Hyperinflation, and a shortage of small change. Most of the coins were made in red Böttger-stoneware but also in white porcelain.
The set consists of two varieties of the Hamburg 40 Pfennig. The smaller one is the normal issue as described by Numista (26 mm in diameter weighing 3.7 grams). The other one is considerably larger weighing 4.6 grams. We can find no reference to it and presume it to be very scarce. Included in the lot are also four 50 Pfennig coins from Kreis Luckau and a carton Tram Token for 20 Pfennig from Leipzig.
