This WW1 S98 High Ear Saw back bayonet with scabbard was made in 1916 by Simon & Co in Suhl Germany.

Full length in scabbard: 52cm.

Length outside scabbard: 50cm.

The blade is stamped with the Keiser insignia (see photos) and was brought back to SA from South West Africa by previous owners grandfather. This probably mean it was in the SWA campaign during WW1.

Simon & Co was a Jewish owned company. Owners had to leave Germany during Nazi rule.

Simon & Co was also one of the few manufacturers that was allowed to continue manufacturing after WW1 due to their low volumes.
