FOUND A GERMAN M53 POLICE OR BUNDESGRENZSCHUTZ (BGS) STAHLHELM OR STEEL HELMET. BUNDESGRENZSCHUTZ ISTHE FORMER NAME OF THE BUNDESPOLIZEI (FEDERAL POLICE) OF GERMANY.
THEY ARE A NICE ALTERNATIVE IF U DONT WANT TO SPENT TO MUCH MONEY FOR A REAL WW2 HELMET AND STILL HAVE A COOL GERMAN HELMET THAT LOOKS IDENTICAL!
In the 1950s, the stahlhelm M53, or sometimes M35/53,these are regarded as the final true members of the stahlhelm family was produced in Germany. The stahlhelm M53 was generally identical in shape to the wartime M40 version of the M35, however the ventilation holes were omitted - see photos.
STAHLHELMS WAS USED FROM THE 1950S ONTO THE 1960S. THE BGS STOPPED USING STEEL HELMETS LIKE THIS IN THE 1970S AND SWITCHED TO FIBERGLASS (RÖHMER TYPE) RIOT HELMETS. After 1976 the BGS and other Polizei units were specifically "demilitarized". Obviously this type of helmet was not compatible with that image.
MARKINGS: ON THE INNER SIDE OF HELMET WE HAVE THE LETTERS LS IN AN CIRCLE. THIS STANDS FOR LINNEMAN AND SCHNETZER THE COMPANY THAT MANUFACTURED THE FIRST 190 000 HELMETS BETWEEN 1956 AND 1958. ALSO THE LETTERS 64 WHICH INDICATE THE SIZE OF THE HELMET OUTER SHELL IN CM.
