A WONDERFUL OLD GARRARD ENGLAND MECHANICAL KEY-WOUND MANTLE CLOCK FROM THE 1930S. COMPLETE WITH ORIGINAL WINDING KEY AND PENDULUM. IT STARTED TICKING BUT ONLY FOR A SHORT WHILE. IT ALSO CHIMED WITH CHIMING RODS SEEMING TO BE WORKING. IT NEEDS A SERVICE TO BE FULLY WORKING. OVERALL ONE OF THE NICEST MANTLE CLOCKS I HAVE HAD THE PRIVILEGE TO OWN.

GARRARD CLOCKS:
The Garrard Engineering & Manufacturing Company of Swindon England was founded by C.E. Newbigin and Major S.H. Garrard in 1915 to manufacture war effort materials such as bomb sights. At the end of World War I they changed to making clockwork motors for gramophones and then to clocks in 1931.
The company also had jewellers shops but oddly these do not seem to have sold Garrard clocks, though they did sell clocks by other makers.
ACTIVE IN CLOCKMAKING 1931-1960 (active).
The company was sold to Plessey an electronics conglomerate, in 1960 and again to Gradiente Electronics of Brazil in 1979 and series production was moved to Brazil (Manaus). In 2018, Cadence Audio SA, took ownership of the Garrard brand. The business was restructured to run under the name of Garrard Turntables UK Ltd.

CONDITION: WOODEN CASE HAS A FEW PAINT SPOTS. I DID NOT TRY TO TAKE THEM OUT BECAUSE I DONT WANT TO STAIN THE WOODEN FINISH. CLOCK COMPLETE WITH ORIGINAL KEY AND PENDULUM. IT STARTED TICKING BUT ONLY FOR A SHORT WHILE. IT ALSO CHIMED WITH CHIMING RODS SEEMING TO BE WORKING. IT NEEDS A SERVICE TO BE FULLY WORKING.
