GIGANTIC 222,78CT INDIAN RUBY GEMSTONE FLUORECES RED UNDER UV LIGHT! VERY HIGH THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY!
A HUGE 89.42CT (26,5G PLEASE SEE PHOTO MULTIPLY WEIGHT BY 5 TO GET CARATS) INDIAN RUBY GEMSTONE WITH A OCTAGON CUT. COMES WITH A BEAUTIFUL PERSPEX PRESENTATION CASE AND VELVET BAG.
THIS PARTICULAR STONE WAS BOUGHT IN 2011 FROM A SELLER IN GERMANY WITH THE ORIGEN OF THE STONE INDICATED AS INDIA. IT HAS A OPAQUE CLARITY WHICH MEANS YOU CANNOT SEE THROUGH IT. IT WAS ALSO SOLD AS A NATURAL BUT HEAT COLOR ENHANCED INDIAN RUBY GEMSTONE.
THIS RUBY PASSED ALL THE TESTS I COULD PERFORM: IT SCRATCHED GLASS EASILY! IT FLUORESCES RED! (PLEASE SEE PHOTO) HAS A VERY HIGH THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY! (PLEASE SEE PHOTO)
IT IS INDEED A REAL RUBY GEMSTONE (EITHER NATURAL OR LAB GROWN) AS IT PASSED ALL THE TESTS I COULD PERFORM AND THESE TESTS DO NOT LIE: PASSED THE SCRATCH TEST: IT SCRATCHES GLASS EASILY IT IS HARDER THAN GLASS. (MOHS HARDNESS GLASS 5.5-6.5 RUBIES 9.0) PASSED THE ELECTRON UV LIGHT EMISSION TEST: GIVES A BEAUTIFUL RED FLUORESCENCE UNDER UV LIGHT. NATURAL RUBIES USUALLY SHOW WEAK RED FLUORESCENCE. A SYNTHETIC RUBY USUALLY SHOWS A STRONG RED FLUORESCENCE. (THE UV LIGHT HIT THE ELECTRONS. THEY JUMP AND FALL BACK. THEY RADIATE LIGHT OF A CERTAIN WAVELENGTH WHEN THEY DO WHICH IS SPECIFIC TO EACH ELEMENT IN THE MINERAL. THIS IS CALLED FLUORESCENCE. ONLY 10% OF GEMSTONES EXHIBIT A FLUORESCENCE AFFECT LIKE RUBIES, SAPPHIRE, TOPAZ, OPALS AND DIAMONDS. GLASS AND ALL NATURAL QUARTZ VARIETIES DOES NOT SHOW A UV AFFECT.) PASSED THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY TEST: TESTED THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY WITH A MIZAR PRESTIGE SERIES 2 DIAMOND TESTER. IT MOVED UP THE LADDER FROM STANDARD LEVEL 3 TO LEVEL 7. FOR SAPPHIRES AND RUBIES A LEVEL OF 6 TO 7 IS THE NORM FOR THIS TESTER. (WITH THIS TESTER GLASS AND QUARTZ MAKES NO MOVEMENT.)

DISCLAIMER: I AM NO GEMSTONE EXPERT. THESE GEMSTONES BELONGED TO A FAMILY MEMBER THAT HAS PASSED AWAY. HE COLLECTED GEMSTONES DURING THE EARLY TWENTY FIRST CENTURY MANY WERE BOUGHT ON EBAY AND OTHERS BY TRAVELLING TO OTHER COUNTRIES. I HAVE TRIED TO VERIFY AS FAR AS POSSIBLE ANY STATEMENTS OR CLAIMS BY DOING SOME THOROUGH RESEARCH AND SOME PRELIMINARY TESTS ON EACH GEMSTONE.
INDIAN RUBIES: As the name implies, these rubies come from India. Indian Ruby isn't necessarily a category of its own but instead refers to where the Ruby is sourced. Indian rubies are the mineral corundum like all other rubies. Corundum is relatively common in nature, and is completely colourless. Chromium causes the red colour in rubies. Rubies sourced from India have a reputation of being particularly durable and come in a deep, blood-red coloring. In fact, their durability is second to that of pure diamonds. Therefore, they can be used as large gems without having to worry about being scratched and do not need a high level of maintenance. Rubies are held in high regard in Asia. In Hinduism, rubies were the stones people offered to the deity Krishna. Many even believed that those who offered a large and beautiful stone to the god would be reincarnated as an emperor. Many of the best-quality rubies from this source have a pinkish-red appearance, and very little material can be faceted. It is often opaque instead of transparent like glass, and polished in a rounded, cabochon shape or carved. Indian ruby are mostly darker in color and opaque. However, some good quality transparent rubies do come but in a very limited amount. Some of the best quality material comes from a little island off the south-east tip of India called Sri Lanka and even though a totally separate country rubies from here are often referred to as Indian rubies. The island is widely known as Ratnadeepa meaning the Island of Gems with the city of Ratnapura meaning City of Gems. Aside from a few scarce exceptions, most of this material will be carving-grade or cabochan-grade, and is not suitable to be faceted like most gems we see. The ruby material from the Karur mines of India can be transparent and facet-quality, but it is not a major ruby supplier on the world market. Most of the rubies are also known to be opaque. Some of these mines are known for large, ruby carving specimens the size of a mans arm. Corundum was the first gem mineral to be synthesized in the lab by a process known today as flame fusion and flux growth. Synthetic rubies and sapphires are presently manufactured in enormous quantities for both industrial and gem application. The color and clarity of rubies and sapphires is commonly enhanced by heat treatment and, less frequently, by irradiation. Although not commonly disclosed by retailers, such processes are widely acknowledged within the industry and are probably today the rule rather than the exception.
