Hyla Coetzee is a self-taught artist whose aim is to portray beauty, not only in people but also in still life, landscapes and flowers. The human face is one of the most fascinating aspects to her.  Her work is decorative and she does not adhere to a specific style as such. The styles she uses depend on the result she wants to achieve. Colour is also one of the most important elements in her work. She loves to use mixed media and don`t restrict herself to artistic rules. Though she uses different mediums her preference lies with acrylics. Because she enjoys painting, her goal is to give enjoyment to the people who see her paintings.
