When to Plant: In South Africa, the ideal time to plant gladioli corms is from late winter through to mid-summer (August to December). Stagger your planting every two weeks for a continuous display of blooms from mid-summer right through autumn.

Depth and Spacing: Plant corms about 10-15 cm deep and 10-15 cm apart. For a truly impressive display, plant them in groups of 7 or more!

Caring for Your Showstoppers: Stake taller varieties if needed, especially in windy areas, to prevent bending. After flowering, allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally before lifting the corms for storage over winter, or leave them in the ground in frost-free areas.

Position and soil
Gladioli look magnificent towards the back of a mixed perennial border. Groups of about 25 look best, although groups of 10 in single colours also make a bold statement. The soil should first be loosened to a depth of 20 cm. Hybrid gladioli like a compost-rich soil mix and need a full sun position to thrive. If they are planted where wind is a problem, they will need staking.
Further Care
Watering is very important and you must not allow the sub-soil to dry out. If you notice any harmful insects or fungal rust then you can treat it by spraying with an appropriate fungal spray.
